Q INTRODUCTION You have received an email from your supervisor who is concerned with what is being reported by other middle managers at your facility. Your peers are hearing from their staff that they are concerned with the quality of care from your team due to comments they are overhearing. There are reports that the therapists in your unit are verbally complaining and criticizing the work of one another when they are doing follow up work on a patient. These complaints are being verbalized in front of staff from other departments as well as in front of patients. It is creating distrust from the nursing staff and the patients themselves. You are aware that a few select therapists are less than secure in their abilities and may be criticizing others to bolster their own confidence. There are also others who are overly confident in their abilities and feel everyone should be modeling their methods On top of these issue there is a lack of cooperation between senior staff and newer graduates. The senior staff are not open to mentoring or guiding the new graduates. And the new graduates are not respecting the experience of the more senior therapists. It is obvious to you that conflict and stress have eased their way into your team's ability to function as a team, and they are approaching their work as an individual with little concern for their team mates. It's time for you to put your best communication skills to work and prepare a statement to get the group back on track. GUIDELINES Your first task is to address these concerns with the unit's team members in a method that showcases your ability to strategically communicate a solution to this problem: • Articulate to your team the consequences of poor teamwork and the rewards of working as a team. • Demonstrate the use of a communication method you think is best to address these issues. • Use specific talking points that demonstrate good communication skills. Your deliverable for the first portion of this assignment should take the form of whatever you think would be the most effective tool to convey the information. Be creative to come up with your method of delivery. You may use or any methods you can think of to convey the information as long as you include some sort of audio or video component. Some options for delivery include but are not limited to: • A presentation (If using a slide presentation, submit your file as a .PPTX file) • A video (Click here for instructions for uploading a video file in an assignmentLinks to an external site.) • A podcast (Click here for an easy to use podcast toolLinks to an external site.) Your second task in this assignment is to prepare an e-mail to your supervisor on how you addressed these issues and what outcome you expect as well as how you will ensure the issue is resolved. For the e-mail, compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. On the first page of the document, provide instructions for accessing your submission for the first part of the assignment and also include a brief justification for why you chose to use your delivery method. On the second page of the document, include the text of your e-mail for the second part of the assignment. TURNITIN This course has Turnitin fully integrated into the course dropbox. This means that you should only submit your assignments to the dropbox below. Please do not submit your assignment directly to Turnitin.com. You will be able to view an Originality Report within minutes of your first submission that will show how much of your work has been identified as similar to other sources such as websites, textbooks, or other student papers. Use your Originality Report as a learning tool to identify areas of your assignment that you may not have cited appropriately. You may resubmit your assignment through this dropbox as many times as you need to check to see if you have made improvements, until the due date of the assignment. However, once you have made your first submission, you will need to wait 24 hours after each subsequent submission to receive a new Originality Report. Plan accordingly as you draft your assignment.
